Governor’s Statewide Youth Council

The Governor’s Statewide Youth Council’s term for 2008-2010 will come to an end very soon, and new youth applicants are invited to join. The council was created by Governor Patrick in response to a 2008 outbreak of youth-related violence in the Greater Boston Area. The Council’s mission is to provide advice to the Governor for making decisions and policies to help improve young lives within the state.

Twenty-eight new Youth Council members will be selected to represent Massachusetts’ fourteen counties with two members per county. The Youth Council is seeking passionate and motivated leaders from ages 14 through 20 for a two-year commitment with responsibilities including monthly meetings, conference calls, advocating youth issues, and working with others for creating effective policy.

Please spread the word or apply if you are interested. Youth can make a difference. For more information visit www.mass.gov/governor/youthcouncil or contact Anny Jean-Jacques in the Governor’s Office of Community Affairs at 617-725-4020.

Banning Plastic Bags

There is a slideshow about how harmful plastic bags are to our environment. One of our next project ideas would be how to make our society more green and environmentally friendly. We will try to set up recycling bins in public parks next to regular trash bins. This idea came to us during our Urban Art Competition when we realized we had no place to recycle all the bottles from the barbeque.

Get the word out, pass the word on, and work towards a greener society!
